Bessel Van Der Kolk
The Body Keeps Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in Healing
Bessel van der Kolk MD spends his career studying how children and adults adapt to traumatic experiences, and has translated emerging findings from neuroscience and attachment research to develop and study a range of treatments for traumatic stress in children and adults.
Drawing on more than thirty years of research and clinical practice, Bessel van der Kolk shows that the terror and isolation at the core of trauma literally reshape both brain and body. New insights into our survival instincts explain why traumatized people experience incomprehensible anxiety and numbing and intolerable rage, and how trauma affects their capacity to concentrate, to remember, to form trusting relationships, and even to feel at home in their own bodies. Having lost the sense of control of themselves and frustrated by failed therapies, they often fear that they are damaged beyond repair.
Aron Beck
Father of Cognitive Psychology
Dr. Beck developed Cognitive Therapy (CT), also known as Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), in the 1960s. The original Center for Cognitive Therapy at Penn served as an important training ground for cognitive behavior therapists. Still, Dr. Beck and his daughter, Dr. Judith Beck, had long wished to establish a new clinical setting that would provide state-of-the-art psychotherapy and training opportunities for professionals worldwide and at all levels. In 1994, they established the Beck Institute at its present site in Bala Cynwyd, in suburban Philadelphia.

The Work is meditation. It is a method of inquiry born directly out of Byron Katie’s experience. This practice allows you to access the wisdom that always exists within you. Byron Katie founded The Work after a personal transformation of her own where she shifted from the depths of depression to a state of awakening.
